Adi Da – Beyond Sex, Science, and “setf

From mid-2004 to early 2006, Adi Da offered a series of discourses, in which he answered questions. As he had always done, he addressed each devotee personally, but was also instructing all beings, in all times and places.

In this discourse he reveals that liberation cannot ever be achieved through sex, science, or religion! And he makes the astounding assertion, “Realization has nothing to do with the body-mind.”

In this discourse Adi Da asks pivotal questions about sexuality:

Is there fulfillment in it? Is there satisfaction in it? Is there Happiness in it? Does it resolve itself? Is it an answer? Is this sexual thing right purpose of life? Does it have anything to do with Happiness, or Realization of Truth-whatever name you want to give to Ultimacy, or whatever references I make? Are bodies desirable, or are they repulsive?

He also explains the fundamental error in all forms of strategic sexual practice, which is the presumption of a separate self, or “point of view”. He points out that this presumption is the very same subjective error in all modes of the search-whether for bodily pleasure, scientific knowledge, or union with “God”.

The “self”-contraction, the “point of view”, the “point-of-view”-machine and what it presumes to be. Reality, the illusions of Reality created by “point of view”-these are the important matters to be understood. The “you” to which you refer as “I”, the ego-“I”, is a “point-of-view”-machine. It is subject to the illusions of the cosmic apparition, the illusions that “point of view” itself is subject to: space-time, mass, and so forth.

Because of this presumption of separateness, he says, liberation cannot ever be achieved through sex, science, or religion. Rather, true happiness is discovered only in the utter transcending of point of view , by means of the devotional relationship to him. Adi Da Samraj tells us that the universe is not as it seems from any point of view . This can be grasped-and it can change the course of life, and your relationship to sexuality and religion.
